Vintage Swedish "Pernilla 1" Chair and Ottoman by Bruno Mathsson Sweden c. 1960's Originally designed by the renowned classic Swedish Modern designer Bruno Mathsson in 1943, this excellent example of his Pernilla 1 chair and ottoman was made in the 1960's. Considered ergonomic wonders of their time, these iconic forms are as fresh today as they were over 65 years ago. The evolution of the Pernilla chair is said to have begun with Mathsson's study of the "mechanics of sitting." The Pernilla 1 was the result of Mathsson himself reclining in a snowbank and then measuring the imprint of his natural sitting posture.
